How we started

Over 6 years ago local man Mark Jones had the idea of starting a community radio station, he organised a public meeting to test the ground and despite mixed feedback his enthusiasm drove the project forward.

After making an appeal for equipment and for local people to become presenters the idea for a radio station called “Caterham Radio” was born. After talking with members of the public it was decide to drop that name and instead change it to “Ridge Radio” which seemed to reflect the district of Tandridge and the 22 towns and villages it covers.

Now 6 years down the road Ridge Radio has moved into it’s current home at 42 West Way, Caterham. But in those early days (see the picture) the first the studio was opposite the ARC on Caterham Hill and then later in Caterham Valley.

This recent move has allowed us to have a purpose built studio and more room to expand the station.

Recently our founder has moved on to pastures new but Ridge Radio will continue to grow and is an important part of the Tandridge Community.

In the new year we will be running a broadcast club for young people, also a radio show for under privileged and vulnerable members of our community whilst still broadcasting to the wider world.

Here at Ridge Radio you will hear a wide range of musical genres, including pop, rock, soul, jazz, country, alternative and even some classical & show tunes. We have a local business show and a chat show, we are sure there is something here for everyone.
So for us its always onward and upward and trying to become a better community hub, tune in, listen and enjoy.

Thank you for your support!
